I recommend this short article about Key competences for lifelong learning. I consider necessarily to introduce students to this key competences.

I am curious about the Jeff Dunn article. He suggests students are less focused on learning and retaining because they have immediate access to information so they don't remember it. While I would guess that is true about memorization, (he doesn't cite any research) I think he is confusing learning with memorization, which is much more narrow. As technology evolves, some skills and knowledge become irrelevant and new skills emerge as critical. Today, it is probably far more useful for students to know how to find information and assess its accuracy than it is to remember lots of facts. They may perform poorly on tests. And there, a good question to ask is whether the tests are measuring relevant learning.

In my conclusion, the responsability is always on the parents. Time is now an issue, the reality is that we do not have enough time to check on everything our family do, so as much as we restrict the dangerous doors, is better. It can be demostrated that more and more the children are being parenting lack and what they receive instead is what they have easy access; if it is bad or good we could never know. Youth are in serious development mentally and fisically and that gives us a reason to focus on being responsable of parenting and guiding their social relationships as close as we can.

Dear Dr. Nolan,
Thank you very much for such a great article!!!! It was a fantastic eye opener!!!
I read it twice since I did not want to missed any of the great content of it.
It provided a great understanding on how things work at CDS and confirmed, to me... this is the reason why we picked this school for our kids education.
Thank you very much.
